Table Crinolineby B&B Italia
Apparently in contrast with the rigour and industrial approach of B&B Italia, the Crinoline seats led the company and designer to share new expressions, a more decorative spirit and the rediscovery of the noblest artisan tradition. For this seating collection, Patricia Urquiola drew inspiration, as its name suggests, the voluminous petticoats of early 18th-century ladies, true works of architecture composed of metal rings. This resulted in very showy seats, large yet light. Objects that the designer identifies with Emmanuelle, a 1970s Just Jaeckin film. The three-dimensional weave gives shape to different kinds of seats, in polyethylene fibre for the outdoor versions and in natural cord. The poncho resembling the Spanish mantillas that covers the smaller armchair is also made of cord. The skilled craftsmanship of the Asian artisans is clear in the weaves, following the soft curves and giving careful attention to every detail.
